There is much to be said about this enchanting country: the endless roads skirting the fjords, the villages nestled at the far ends of deep valleys, detached from the modern world, and entire islands inhabited by more eagles than people. Yet, what amazed me most about this extraordinary land is something unique, something I had rarely encountered during my travels and which defines the essence of Norway: mountains that rise directly from the sea. Here, from the ocean’s edge, ascend peaks of rare and breathtaking beauty.
What I carry home from this journey is an irresistible yearning to keep reaching higher, a journey made all the more magical when the ascent begins at the very edge of the sea.
